Northern China's Shanxi province set a new record high in outbound power transmission over January-March this year, according to State Grid Shanxi Electric Power Company.
The coal-rich province supplied 41.35 TWh of electricity to other provinces and regions in the first quarter of 2024, rising 8.79% from the year-ago level, the company said on April 16.
As of the end of March, the province's total installed capacity reached 134.21 GW, a year-on-year growth of 10.01%. Shanxi generated 117.33 TWh of electricity during the same period, up 5.23% on the year.
Renewable installations exceeded 50 GW to 51.64 GW by the end of March, representing 38.48% of the province's total installed capacity. In the first quarter of this year, Shanxi's outbound renewable power transmission surged 66.63% on the year to 3.77 TWh, the company said.
The renewable energy utilization remained above 97%, contributing to the province's clean and low-carbon transformation in the energy sector.
Shanxi's annual outbound electricity transmission accounts for one-third of the province's total power generation, serving as a hub for cross-regional electricity transmission, as well as the convergence point of ultra-high-voltage transmission channels.
To enhance the transmission capacity, a power transmission channel network consisting of three AC and one DC ultra-high-voltage lines and fourteen 500-kV lines came online, with a transmission capacity exceeding 30 GW.
Shanxi could supply electricity to 23 provinces and regions, effectively supporting high-quality economic development and civilian electricity needs.
